Matthew B. Lerner is a partner in the Atlanta office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP where he focuses on product liability litigation, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, and commercial litigation. He is a member of the State Bars of Georgia and Florida.
Mr. Lerner has litigated cases locally and nationally involving an assortment of products, including medical devices, prescription drugs, heavy trucks, material handling equipment, construction equipment, and home appliances. Mr. Lerner has also handled a wide spectrum of business disputes and has protected the trademark rights of corporate clients by obtaining injunctions against infringing activity. In addition, Mr. Lerner has extensive experience in managing electronic discovery issues in mass tort litigation.
He is the author of an article published in the inaugural issue of the Defense Research Institute's publication, E-Discovery Connection, entitled "Recent Developments in E-Discovery Case Law." He also co-authored an article in the ABA's Product Liability Newsletter entitled "Proactive Strategies to Prevent and Defend Products Liability Cases," and co-authored an article in Law 360 Product Liability Law entitled "Defeating Joinder in Medical Device Litigation."
In 2010 and 2011, Mr. Lerner was selected as a Rising Star by Law & Politics magazine. The Rising Stars list is compiled and published by Key Professional Media Inc., which asks attorneys to nominate the best attorneys they've personally observed in action who are 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. No more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state are named to the Rising Stars list.
At Nelson Mullins, Mr. Lerner has served on the Associates Committee for several years. As an associate, Mr. Lerner received the inaugural Nelson Mullins' Renaissance Associate Award, an award presented to one associate firm-wide who best demonstrates achievement in client service, training, pro bono, marketing, recruiting, and productivity.
Mr. Lerner is also a member of the American, Georgia, and Atlanta Bar Associations, and the Defense Research Institute (DRI).
Mr. Lerner earned a Juris Doctor, with high honors, from the Levin College of Law, University of Florida where he was inducted into The Order of the Coif. During law school, he was a senior editor of the Florida Law Review. Mr. Lerner earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Legal Studies, summa cum laude, from the University of Central Florida.
