Bob Massie is a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough’s West Virginia office. He has more than 20 years experience handling some of the largest and most complex litigation in West Virginia. He has handled and tried cases throughout West Virginia in both state and federal courts and has been retained by several large clients to handle significant litigation in Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, Alabama, and Indiana as well. He primarily practices in the areas of insurance defense and bad faith litigation, product liability, toxic tort litigation, railroad litigation, transportation and trucking law.  He has also handled appeals before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia and the United States Supreme Court.  A member of the State Bar of West Virginia, Mr. Massie is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia as well as the United States Supreme Court.

He served as president of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia in 2007-2008 and is currently the editor of that organization’s newsletter.  He is a member of DRI currently serving on the DRI Judicial Task Force and the Annual Meeting Steering Committee.  He is also a member of the National Association Of Railroad Trial Counsel, the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, and the Cabell County Bar Association.

Mr. Massie has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2008 to the present in five areas, including Insurance Defense, Insurance Coverage, Insurance Bad Faith, Mass Tort Litigation, Personal Injury Litigation, Product Liability Litigation, and Railroad Law.  

A native West Virginian, Mr. Massie earned his Juris Doctor in 1991 from the West Virginia University College of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, magna cum laude, from Marshall University in 1987.
