Peter J. Haley is a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough’s Boston office and has extensive experience in all areas of commercial law.  Mr. Haley represents both debtors and creditors in financial and corporate restructurings as well as bankruptcy reorganizations and has more than 20 years of trial experience in bankruptcy and business litigation matters in both federal and state courts. Mr. Haley’s corporate and financial institution experience includes acting as counsel to lenders in a variety of commercial lending transactions and providing advice in connection with restructurings.   Mr. Haley regularly appears on behalf of lenders in connection with the Firm’s consumer finance practice.  Mr. Haley has represented venture capital firms and other investors as buyers, sellers and interested parties in bankruptcy proceedings throughout the United States. Mr. Haley has been recognized by his peers for listing as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer. 

Mr. Haley’s experience includes: 

  • Arch Wireless, Inc. – counsel for the Unsecured Bondholders Committee. 
  • Ground Round – counsel for the Unsecured Creditors Committee.
  • Komtek, Inc. – counsel for asset purchaser and controlling equity holders.
  • Tronox – counsel for potential acquirer.
  • Key 3 Media Group, Inc. – counsel to investor and unsecured noteholders.
  • Greate Bay Casino Corporation – counsel to contract party and intellectual property license holder.
  • Eclipse Aviation Corp. – counsel for successful purchaser.

Mr. Haley has represented debtors in Chapter 11 reorganizations in the cases of Payton Construction Corporation, LKM Industries, Gloucester Marine Railways, Shepard Clothing Company, Gull Air, Inc., and the developers of Porter Exchange in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Mr. Haley is regularly engaged in representing venture capital and other investors in distressed situations and has spoken on topics in this area at local and national panels. 

Mr. Haley has participated as a panelist and author with the American Bankruptcy Institute, American Bar Association, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) and the West Legal Education Center on bankruptcy and litigation topics. 

Active in numerous civic and nonprofit groups, Mr. Haley is a member and past president of the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Association for the Blind; a former member of the Winchester School Committee and the Winchester Board of Selectmen; a member of the Long-Term Funding Subcommittee of the Governor’s Readiness Project; and a member of the board of directors of the Winchester Community Service Foundation. 

Mr. Haley is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Haley earned his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern University.
