Experience

  • Litigates matters on behalf of project owners, renewable energy developers, and engineers involved in complex construction-related disputes
  • Provides counsel concerning all legal and contractual aspects related to successful delivery of complex construction projects
  • Represents and counsels solar and renewable energy developers in regulatory matters pending before courts, government agencies, and state public service commissions
  • Acted as a lead counsel for companies in dockets at the South Carolina Public Service Commission (SCPSC), including docket related to Duke Carbon Plan proceeding.
  • Acted as a lead counsel for an EV charging station maker in various matters at SCPSC
  • Acted as a lead counsel for solar developer in first ever SCPSC Siting Act approval for two 100 MW solar projects, the first ever non-fossil projects to be run through the Siting Act process (2022)
  • Provides environmental counsel and due diligence services to commercial property owners and developers to implement strategies to achieve development objectives
  • Served as litigation counsel for property insurer defending against claims related to coverage
  • Knowledgeable concerning insurance insolvency and guaranty fund legal issues and protection
  • Litigated and provided counsel to companies, vendors, and contractors doing business with federal, state, and local government entities

Previous Professional Experience

  • Provided litigation services with special emphasis on construction projects, environmental matters, federal False Claims Act suits, and other commercial disputes as counsel in the Columbia office of a regional law firm
  • During his military service, competitively selected for advanced legal studies and earned a LL.M. degree with special emphasis on environmental and natural resources law
  • Following LL.M. studies, served as environmental counsel for a military air base advising on natural resources, wildlife, hazardous materials, and land use issues affecting all training for a million-plus acre collection of federal lands that represented the largest training range in the Marine Corps
  • In that role, worked closely with clients and various state and federal agencies resolving wildlife issues under federal law, including management of threatened and endangered species, incidental take issues, critical habitat designation, and related long range planning
  • Served as the primary legal adviser for a Marine Corps infantry battalion in Al Anbar, Iraq
  • As a military criminal defense counsel, represented and advised service members facing prosecution in military courts in both the United States and overseas
