Lexi focuses on a variety of aspects of litigation and education law, with an emphasis on federal Title IX compliance. She brings to her practice four years as a collegiate student-athlete and leverages that experience to provide practical, strategic advice to educational institutions and their athletics departments. Lexi draws from these real-world experiences to help counsel colleges and universities across the country on legal and compliance matters such as Title IX athletics and sexual misconduct, athletics strategic planning, and school and university law.

In her athletics practice, she performs athletics audits and compliance reviews, develops strategic planning initiatives, and litigates Title IX athletics matters on behalf of schools, including defending colleges under investigation by the federal Office for Civil Rights. Operating on the cutting edge of collegiate sports industry developments, Lexi assists colleges and universities with developing and implementing policies governing the use of student-athletes’ name, image, and likeness (“NIL”) and related Alston educational benefits.

Lexi also devotes her practice to Title IX sexual misconduct matters. Her current practice includes drafting policies and procedures and litigating sexual misconduct cases on behalf of schools, as well as crafting and delivering comprehensive sexual misconduct investigation and adjudication training to various higher education stakeholders.

Experience

Experience

  • Represented numerous universities regarding Title IX compliance issues, including defending universities subject to class action and other litigation and federal Office for Civil Rights investigations for alleged gender discrimination related to athletics and sexual misconduct matters.
  • Assisted in successful pre-suit resolution of threatened Title IX athletics litigation, resulting in the proactive addition of two high-caliber, preeminent women’s Division I athletics teams.
  • Continuously advises and trains higher education and K-12 clients on compliance matters relating to new Title IX sexual misconduct regulations.
  • Provided training in August 2021 to the Louisiana Board of Regents and each of the state’s 31 public institutions of higher education related to Title IX’s federal requirements, recent state law changes impacting system and campus responsibilities, and how those two regulatory schemes intersect to create overarching obligations for sexual misconduct prevention, investigation, and adjudication.
  • Assisted with development of statewide Title IX Formal Grievance Procedures and Uniform Policy on Power-Based Violence/Sexual Misconduct for implementation across all of Louisiana’s public higher education institutions, which collectively serve more than 200,000 students.
  • Represented K-12 client during U.S. Department of Justice investigation relating to student-on-student sexual assault.
  • Conducted hearings and made various court appearances on behalf of juvenile and adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
  • Conducted a campus-wide research initiative concerning student perspectives on sexual misconduct issues and has given related presentations to the Southern Sociological Society
