Experience

  • Handled briefing on appeal before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
  • Presented oral argument on pretrial motions and appeared in other pretrial hearings in both state and federal courts in West Virginia and Kentucky.
  • Obtained summary judgment in state and federal court in numerous civil actions ranging from insurance bad faith to contract disputes and professional-liability claims
  • Served on several trial teams in preparing witnesses, drafting bench briefs, and other trial tasks

  • Baez v. Foremost Ins. Co., No. 17-0473, 2018 WL 2175900 (W. Va. May 11, 2018) (obtained summary judgment in insurance-coverage dispute).
  • Massey v. 21st Century Centennial Ins. Co., No. 2:17-cv-01922, 2018 WL 1023108 (S.D. W. Va. Feb. 22, 2018) (obtained favorable ruling allowing retention of federal jurisdiction and ultimately prevailed on summary judgment).
  • Harsco Corporation v. CSX Transportation, Inc., No. 16-0695, 2017 WL 3821878 (W. Va. Sept. 1, 2017) (drafted appellee briefs, ultimately prevailing on appeal).
  • Whiting v. Butch, No. 16-1290, 2016 WL 6994219 (4th Cir. Nov. 30, 2016) (obtained summary judgment in the district court and prevailed on appeal before the Fourth Circuit)
