Previous Professional Experience

  • U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, Professional Staff Member, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies (2010-2014)
    • Advised Ranking Member of Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies on all federal budget and policy recommendations for the Department of Education
    • Developed appropriations strategies for the members of the Subcommittee and full Appropriations Committee to ensure that their priorities within the Department of Education were reflected in the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill
    • Prepared Ranking Member of the Subcommittee for hearings on agency budgets, including drafting statements, developing questions, and analyzing legislative proposals and strategic initiatives for resource allocation and oversight purposes
    • Drafted appropriations legislation, including bill text, report language, and amendments pertaining to the Department of Education, as well as lead bills through committee and conference negotiations
    • Reviewed and conducted oversight of Department of Education policies and budgets in the areas of early childhood education, elementary and secondary education, special education, career, technical, and adult education, and postsecondary education
