Firm Grows Georgia Government Relations Team Ahead of 2025 Legislative Session

Our team welcomes back Ross Sheppard to work alongside Stan Jones, Helen Sloat, and George Ray.

The Nelson Mullins’ Georgia Government Relations Team has wrapped up its preparations for the 2025 Legislative Session by welcoming back a veteran team member to help serve the growing practice. Ross Sheppard rejoins the Firm as a policy advisor and will work alongside Stan Jones, Helen Sloat, and George Ray to serve the team’s diverse client base and continue their tradition of strategic, informed, and responsive client service.

“We’re delighted to have Ross back on our team,” noted Georgia Government Relations Team Leader Stan Jones. “His knowledge, experience, and good humor will serve our clients well as we all work together through the long legislative days under the Gold Dome.”

Sheppard, a native of Sandersville, Georgia, and an alum of Georgia College & State University, served as a legislative assistant in the Georgia House of Representatives and ran a successful campaign for a Member of the House. He first worked with the Georgia Government Relations Team in 2013 and has remained connected to politics while growing a successful real estate and historic preservation business. Sheppard was honored as one of Georgia Trend’s “40 Under 40” in 2022 and selected as the Georgia College and State University College of Business Humanitarian of the Year in 2021.

While Jones, Sloat, and Ray will remain principal client contacts and advocates during the 2025 Legislative Session, Sheppard will provide valuable support to the team and clients, including contributing to the widely acclaimed daily Gold Dome Report.

“We work together and serve clients collectively as a team,” explained Director of Georgia Policy and Government Relations Helen Sloat. “Ross will be an immediate value-add for our clients and the Report.”

Nelson Mullins’ Georgia Government Relations Team was again honored in 2024 as a Top Lobbying Firm by JAMES Magazine, and Sloat and Ray were recognized as among the Top 100 Registered Lobbyists in Georgia. Jones and Sloat are also members of the JAMES Lobbyist Hall of Fame. The 2025 Georgia Legislative Session convenes on Jan. 13.
