CHARLOTTE (May 24, 2017)–Three experienced business litigators have joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in its Charlotte office. Fred M. Wood Jr. and Evan M. Sauda join as partners, while Ariel E. Harris joins as an associate.
Mr. Wood represents companies in a variety of complex litigation and arbitration matters, including cases involving unfair business practices and methods of competition, the N.C. Trade Secrets Protection Act, business torts, and class actions. He also focuses on financial services litigation. He has represented banks, financial institutions, investment advisors, and other professional services firms in matters that include securities lending and litigation, professional liability, antitrust, breach of fiduciary duty, transactional, and contractual disputes.
Mr. Sauda also assists clients in litigating complex business disputes. He routinely appears in state and federal courts, including the N.C. Business Court, and handles binding arbitrations, both before the American Arbitration Association and other quasi-¬judicial bodies. He has brought cases to verdict before juries, judges, and arbitrators and has handled appeals in North Carolina's appellate courts and in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He also assists clients in designing and continuously improving their litigation management strategies and processes.
Ms. Harris focuses primarily on business litigation, complex commercial disputes, employment and labor litigation, financial services litigation, and healthcare litigation. She represents clients in a variety of contract settings involving commercial contracts, business torts, insurance coverage, and unfair business practices and methods of competition. She has experience in securing and defending against temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions in order to protect employers’ business strategies.
