Following a friendly fundraising competition hosted by Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF), Nelson Mullins has been named a 2022 AVLF Cup Champion. The firm raised $42,202 and was among 9 champion organizations recognized in the competition. Overall, AVLF raised more than $240,000 toward its mission of providing crucial resources for pro bono legal and social services to vulnerable populations in Atlanta.

The AVLF Cup was started in 2021 as a friendly competition among Atlanta area law firms and accounting firms. The Cup is won by either 1) raising the most amount of money within the competition group or 2) reaching the highest point total in the competition group. There are five competition groups, each named after Atlanta parks, based on size or type of organization.

Nelson Mullins has been a long-time supporter of AVLF, with many Atlanta attorneys contributing pro bono work to their programs over the years. AVLF's mission is to create safe and stable homes and families in Atlanta by inspiring the fight for equal justice, according to its website. Serving over 5,000 individuals each year, AVLF offers pro bono legal services through programs such as the Safe Families Office, Standing with Our Neighbors, the Eviction Defense Program, and more.

AVLF has more than 50 staff members, rotating ranks of volunteer attorneys and legal professionals, and a Board of Directors and Leadership Council that guides the organization's goals and vision. Many of the firm’s attorneys are long-time members of both the Board and the Leadership, including serving as past presidents in both capacities.
