Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP announced today the expansion of its Business and Distribution Litigation Team with the addition of three experienced attorneys in Denver and Los Angeles. Darin J. Lang joins as a partner from Hall & Evans LLC and will be based in Denver, and Deborah J. Goldman and Stephen A. Lending both join the Firm as of counsel in Los Angeles, having most recently been with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
“We welcome Darin, Deborah, and Steve to the Firm and our growing practices in Denver and Los Angeles,” said partner and team leader S. Keith Hutto. “They bring experience in both the automotive industry and general litigation in a variety of industries. They are a good fit for our team.”
Lang represents numerous automotive and other manufacturers, self-insured businesses, and individuals. His practice is concentrated in the areas of products liability defense and commercial trucking, although he handles a wide variety of matters on behalf of his clients. Mr. Lang has developed a regional, broad-based trial practice in numerous state and federal courts as well as in arbitrations, mediations, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. He has tried numerous cases to verdict and has appeared on behalf of his clients in state and federal courts in Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Goldman retired from Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. after 26 years. Initially, she focused on automotive product liability, creating Toyota’s National Rollover Program and establishing Toyota’s first discovery database. For the past 20 years, she focused on automotive franchise law and dealer relations, supporting Toyota and Lexus sales divisions and a wide variety of corporate functions ranging from product quality to marketing, distribution, warranty, and licensing. Ms. Goldman was actively involved in training associates throughout the country and in creating e-learning modules for associates’ continuing education.
Lending has worked in the automotive industry and on automotive-related issues for more than 40 years and is currently focused on areas related to automotive safety. In 2011, he took a position as in-house counsel at the U.S. headquarters of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, Inc., primarily supporting the company’s vehicle safety and compliance functions. Prior to an affiliation with a national law firm, Mr. Lending worked for 31 years for Nissan North America, Inc. and Nissan Motor Corporation in USA, where he had various responsibilities in practice areas that included vehicle safety regulations, product liability litigation management and counseling, and automotive service and warranty matters.
The three join more than 35 attorneys in the franchise and distribution law and litigation group who represent regional, national, and international franchisors, distributors, and multi-unit franchisees. The Firm opened its Denver office in late 2016 and most recently added partner John P. Streelman from Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell. The Los Angeles office opened in early 2017 with five attorneys with a strong background in the motor vehicle industry and plans to grow the office to provide additional legal areas.
