Nelson Mullins and ACC North Florida hosted a networking event at Wicked Barley in Jacksonville, Florida on Sept. 20 where attendees were encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to donate to patients at Wolfson Children's Hospital. Throughout September, ACC chapters across the country participated in the ACC’s National Community Service Month. As part of that initiative, Nelson Mullins’s business and corporate law associate Kelly Dunn Waters and ACC North Florida Board Member Megan Wilson, planned the social networking event that would also benefit children at Jacksonville-based, Wolfson Children's Hospital.
“Wolfson Children’s Hospital is a gem in our Northeast Florida community, providing care to all children regardless of their family’s financial situation,” said Wilson. “At ACC North Florida, our members strive to make an impact in our local area in tangible and meaningful ways beyond our involvement in the legal community. We were grateful to partner with Nelson Mullins to provide not only a fun networking event for our members, but also an opportunity to help local children heal through learning and play.”
The event was a success with 28 attendees who donated 6 large boxes of toys that were delivered to Wolfson Children’s Hospital on September 28.
“I would like to personally thank Nelson Mullins and ACC North Florida for their generous toy donation to Wolfson Children’s Hospital. We truly appreciate the community support that we receive. This allows us to provide therapeutic interventions, using toys and engaging activities, to help children cope with their hospitalization,” said Karen Frame, Wolfson Children’s Hospital child life specialist.
“We are so very appreciative of the generous donation of toys," said Pat Kirkland, manager of Wolfson Children’s Hospital Family Support Services. “Child Life Specialists use toys to help patients and families be more comfortable in the hospital by providing opportunities for play and to help them better understand and process what is happening to them so they cope successfully. Thank you for making a difference!”
Recognized year after year as one of America's Best Children's Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, Wolfson Children's Hospital is the only full-service tertiary hospital for children in the region, serving North Florida, South Georgia, and beyond, regardless of the family’s ability to pay.
