WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.–Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough partner Mark Stafford has been appointed as vice chair of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys (NCADA). Stafford will serve a one-year term as vice chair for the division of NCADA that provides educational and networking opportunities for members whose practices include business torts, class actions, antitrust and trade regulation, plus many other complex litigation cases.
Originally formed in 1977 as an association of personal injury and products liability defense lawyers, the NCADA has intensified its focus over the past decade on the needs of business litigation attorneys. As vice chair of the practice group, Stafford will be a leader in designing programs to enhance the skills of commercial trial attorneys in the state, building professionalism among those attorneys and judges who oversee complicated business disputes and providing a public voice for the needs of the businesses that the attorneys serve.
“No area of litigation has changed in the past 30 years as much as commercial litigation,” said Stafford. “Disputes over complex technology, shareholder and employee rights and liability, and cross-border business dealings have not only grown in number, but the incredible volume of electronic evidence and statutory and regulatory changes require that we provide increasing support to the attorneys who must navigate these waters. It is gratifying to know that by supporting the business trial bar, I will simultaneously be assisting the business community across all of North Carolina.”
Stafford, a commercial litigator for over 30 thirty years, practices in the areas of business, healthcare, employment, financial services, and complex litigation, with a focus on arbitration and trials of healthcare, shareholder, computer technology, and employment disputes.
