LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Office Managing Partner Richard H. “Rich” Otera has joined the Board of Directors of Community Legal Aid SoCal (CLA SoCal). The organization helps fight injustice by providing compassionate, high-quality legal aid to immigrants, homeless, elderly, abused, low income, and other underserved individuals in the local community.
Otera has been involved with CLA SoCal since joining Nelson Mullins in 2017 to open the Los Angeles office. He and the entire office have worked with CLA SoCal in support of numerous initiatives and programs, from daily clinics to litigation matters, and have also explored concepts for broader service offerings. This partnership grew out of a sense of shared community and therefore purpose. Out of its offices in Santa Ana and Compton, CLA SoCal focuses its support in Orange County and South Los Angeles, and Nelson Mullins’ office in Torrance is located in the heart of these communities.
“We have worked with CLA SoCal and their Director of Pro Bono, Tony Lu, since we opened the L.A. office in early 2017. We quickly realized that we shared not only common geography, but a common purpose – to bring greater legal support to the underserved residents in South Los Angeles, Orange County and the surrounding communities,” Otera said. “CLA SoCal has a rich history of providing integral support to low-income residents in the local area for over 60 years. We are so excited and honored to share a partnership with such an esteemed and critical fixture in the community.”
