Experienced Bankruptcy Litigator Zana Scarlett Joins Nelson Mullins in Miami

MIAMI – U.S. Department of Justice trial attorney Zana M. Scarlett has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP as a member of the Financial Institutions, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Group. She is an experienced civil litigator with a background in commercial transactions and a deep knowledge of bankruptcy, financial restructuring, and creditors’ rights.

She spent more than a decade as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, where she managed and monitored chapter 7 and 11 cases. She spent two years detailed to the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees in Washington, D.C. for a special litigation team charged with  identifying, investigating, preparing, and litigating cases in multiple federal districts nationwide. She also has worked as a litigator and bankruptcy attorney at private firms in Miami and New York.

“We are excited to have Zana join our Nelson Mullins team,” said Gary Freedman, vice chair of Nelson Mullins’ Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Practice Group. “She adds a wealth of experience from her time at the Department of Justice on a multitude of issues.”

She earned her JD in 2000 from Duke University Law School and a B.Sc. in Management Science (Finance) with Concentration in Spanish in 1996 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
