WASHINGTON, DC – DC Volunteer Lawyers Project has selected Katherine A. DeStefano, an associate in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP’s Washington, DC office, as its Civil Protection Order Volunteer of the Year.
DeStefano has volunteered at the project since February and has worked on six civil protection order (CPO) cases and one child custody case with supervising attorneys from the project. In CPO cases, lawyers represent domestic violence survivors who are seeking to obtain CPOs ordering their abusers to stay away.
She also serves on the project’s junior board, where associates from firms in the Washington, DC area volunteer to advocate for the organization.
The DC Volunteer Lawyers Project was founded in 2008 to create, support, and utilize a network of volunteer lawyers to provide high-quality, pro bono legal services to domestic violence victims and at-risk children in Washington, DC.
