California Lawyers Association Recognizes Crispin Collins for Pro Bono Work

Los Angeles associate Crispin Collins has been awarded the California Lawyers Association’s Wiley W. Manuel Certificate for Pro Bono Legal Services.

The award recognizes the contributions of those in the legal community who volunteer their time and knowledge on behalf of low-income clients. Created in 1989 by the State Bar of California, it is named for Justice Wiley W. Manuel who dedicated his career to serving the public and who became the first Black Justice of the California Supreme Court in 1977.

In 2020, Collins volunteered more than 50 hours of his time with the Public Law Center (PLC), which nominated him for the recognition, to provide access to justice for Orange County's low-income residents. Since 2018, Collins has taken on five cases referred to him from PLC, in which he represented indigent clients who needed help arguing cases in federal district court, challenging the Social Security Administration’s denial of their disability benefits. He has also provided services to Public Counsel in Los Angeles, the largest pro bono law firm in the nation. Collins practices in commercial and business litigation, with an emphasis on franchise and distribution litigation and defending against breach of warranty claims.

“I enjoy helping Public Law Center in particular, as they are based in Orange County; I’m an Orange County native, and I volunteered for PLC during law school,” Collins says. “It is rewarding to know I’m helping my neighbors — especially my poor neighbors and those with disabilities — obtain the services that they desperately need.”
