Georgia Legal Services Program Hosts Clinic as Part of 2022 National Celebration of Pro Bono
ATLANTA – For many Georgians, building financial stability for their family can be a lifelong challenge; often, equity in a home becomes a family’s greatest asset. Unfortunately, the means to protect that financial stability and ensure it passes to the next generation can seem confusing or out of reach. Last week, attorneys from The Coca-Cola Company and Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP joined with Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP)’s Pro Bono Program for a special clinic to give peace of mind to 15 families throughout the state who were struggling with these issues.
During the clinic, teams of attorneys from both companies worked together to prepare wills and Advance Directives for Health Care for clients with limited resources. These documents work together to make sure that an individual’s treatment decisions are honored if they are unable to communicate, and to ensure the home and other assets are distributed according to a property owner’s wishes when they pass. While the attorneys worked from Nelson Mullins’ Atlanta offices, clients were located around Georgia – an approach made possible by technology and GLSP’s network of regional offices.
