New Broward County President Alison Smith created a D&I committee that recently held the first of what the group hopes will be a long line of events and programs meant to increase awareness among the local bar community about different cultures. Nelson Mullins Fort Lauderdale partner Harsh Arora co-chairs the committee.
"The way it starts is by basically highlighting the heritage and backgrounds of those that come from different backgrounds," he said. "And so we're starting with a celebration, and then we plan on getting to more educational activities such as panel discussions with diverse attorneys and [members of the] judiciary, and also offering articles [in] the county bar's publications to spread the message and gain support and understanding."
