Baltimore partner Michael A. Brown was featured in the 2019 Maryland Super Lawyers cover story about what it has meant to grow his practice in a city that has celebrated and mourned some of the country's most important civil rights events. From Thurgood Marshall's rise to the Supreme Court to the loss of Freddie Gray and the protests that followed, Baltimore has been an epicenter of national change in the legal landscape regarding civil rights.
Brown told Super Lawyers the changes he's seen since he began his legal career: "Things have improved since those days, but back then, there were few — if any — roadmaps to follow." He also sees an encouraging increase in the representation of African-Americans within the legal community. "Today, there are so many good, strong black partners in firms in Baltimore compared to when I was coming in," Brown said. "The younger generation, they’re smarter. No question. Intellectually smarter. The young lawyers we see are so capable. They are fearless."
