On Dec. 13, the Trump White House announced the U.S. reached an agreement on what's being called phase one of a trade deal with China. The accord is to be signed in early January and come into force in February 2020.
As of this writing, no definitive text of the agreement, which purportedly runs to 86 pages, has been released. President Donald Trump described the agreement in glowing terms on his Twitter feed. The Office of the United States Trade Representative released a two-page fact sheet summarizing key aspects of the deal. Robert Lighthizer, the USTR, gave interviews in various media outlets touting key components of the deal.
