Winning Payor Audits! Tips for Overcoming Denials

Columbia partner Alice Harris will present at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's (NHPCO's) 2019 Interdisciplinary Conference in Orlando, Fla. on Nov. 6, 2019. From 11 a.m. to noon, Harris will deliver a presentation titled "Winning Payor Audits! Tips for Overcoming Denials." Lessons learned as a Hospice successfully defended a claims audit conducted by a 'Medicaid Integrity Contractor'." Fellow speakers will include: 

  • Anita Butler, Senior Vice President of Post-Acute Services for Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) 
  • Karla M. Lamb, Director of Post-Acute Case Management for SRHS
  • Kim G. Ross, Director of Hospice, Palliative Care, and Senior Health for SRHS
  • Cynthia B. Hutto, Vice President of Corporate Integrity for SRHS

The panel will discuss topics including lessons learned as a hospice successfully defended a claims audit conducted by a Medicaid Integrity Contractor, developing a strategic, team-based model for defending against alleged medical necessity and technical errors, and discussion of robust medical necessity arguments/templates and emerging trends to defend against technical denials.
