State Bar of Georgia to Honor Nelson Mullins Partner Anita Thomas
ATLANTA (June 14, 2010) -- The State Bar of Georgia will honor Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough partner Anita Wallace Thomas with the Thomas R. Burnside Jr. Excellence in Bar Leadership Award on June 18 during the organization's annual meeting.
The award is given to honor an individual for a lifetime commitment to the legal profession and the justice system in Georgia through dedicated service to a local or circuit bar, practice area bar, or minority bar.
Ms. Thomas has dedicated many years to Bar and professional service organizations as well as state and national mentoring associations. A member of the State Bar of Georgia and its Women and Minorities in the Profession Committee, Ms. Thomas also serves as chair of the Nelson Mullins Diversity Committee. Ms. Thomas is a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, where she serves on the executive board and was president in 2000. She also has served on the board of the National Association of Women Lawyers and is a member of the National Bar Association and the Board of Trustees of the Leadership Institute for Women of Color in Law and Business.
Ms. Thomas practices in litigation involving general commercial litigation, drug and medical device litigation, product liability, employment litigation, and toxic tort. Earlier this month she was honored by the Atlanta Bar Association with the Outstanding Woman in the Profession Achievement Award.
