Experienced Executive Compensation, Employee Benefits Attorneys Join Nelson Mullins' Atlanta Office

ATLANTA (April 26, 2010) -- Three attorneys with considerable executive compensation and employee benefit backgrounds have joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough in its Atlanta office. Susan Stoffer and Kathryn Solley join the firm as partners, and David Pilson joins as an associate. All three have extensive experience in assisting clients in a variety of issues related to the design, preparation, communication, administration and operation of all forms of employee benefit plans and executive compensation programs.

Ms. Stoffer practices in the areas of executive compensation and employee benefits law where she focuses on counseling clients on equity and non-equity incentive compensation arrangements, deferred compensation plans, employment and severance agreements, retirement plan design and compliance, as well as merger and acquisition issues and ERISA fiduciary issues. In addition, Mrs. Stoffer is experienced in welfare plan compliance, HIPAA, healthcare reform, and retiree welfare arrangements. She also regularly counsels clients on benefits issues connected with PEOs and employee outsourcing arrangements and has extensive experience dealing with collectively bargained pension and healthcare issues, including negotiation of such matters.

Ms. Solley serves clients on a wide range of legal matters pertaining to employee benefits and executive compensation, including nonqualified deferred compensation plans, defined benefit pension plans, group health plans, and stock options, as well as fiduciary responsibility under ERISA. She has worked with public and private companies and their employee benefits needs for more than 30 years, including mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. In 1988, she drafted one of the first cash balance pension plans and has followed the changing legal environment for such plans since then. Her fiduciary counseling has focused on benefit plan committees, both administrative and investment, and their members.

Mr. Pilson counsels clients on a wide range of issues related to retirement and welfare plan design, implementation, administration, and termination. He is experienced in HIPAA matters, healthcare reform and COBRA. In addition, Mr. Pilson works with clients on collective bargaining pension and welfare plan issues, multiemployer plans and withdrawal liability. He also counsels clients with respect to employee benefits considerations in corporate mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions.
