Nelson Mullins Elects Reg Leichty to Partnership
WASHINGTON (Jan. 6, 2009) – The partners of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough have elected Reginal J. Leichty to partnership in the Washington, DC, office.
Mr. Leichty is an attorney with EducationCounsel LLC, an affiliate of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. Formerly of counsel, Mr. Leichty provides comprehensive legal, legislative, and strategic policy counsel to state and local education agencies, national education associations and organizations, foundations, and a variety of communications and technology firms.
Mr. Leichty helps clients comply with federal education and telecommunications law and regulation and works with them to develop and implement effective federal advocacy plans. He provides regulatory counsel, legislative drafting, strategic policy development, coalition building, and direct advocacy on Capitol Hill and before federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education and Federal Communications Commission.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Leichty served as a telecommunications and technology advisor to Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska and as Chief Counsel for Senator Bill Nelson of Florida. During his eight years on Capitol Hill, he worked extensively on education technology, data security, and other technology and new media issues pending before the Senate Commerce and Judiciary Committees.
