Nelson Mullins Awards Grant
to N.C. Legal Aid for Children's Issues

(May 14, 2012) – Legal Aid of North Carolina will use a grant awarded by law firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough to hire law interns to assist children and their families with legal needs in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem.

Nelson Mullins has maintained a donor directed foundation fund since 1997 to provide yearly assistance to organizations that serve the legal needs of low-income children. The firm in the past has provided Fellowship grants to Legal Aid of North Carolina to support attorneys working on children's issues.

"We are grateful for the assistance Nelson Mullins is providing to allow us to increase the numbers of children we can serve," said George Hausen, executive director of Legal Aid of North Carolina. "Children are among the most underrepresented in the legal system, and the addition of law clerks can help us reach more of those in need."

Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity.

Established in 1897, Nelson Mullins has more than 430 attorneys and government relations professionals with offices in Atlanta, Boston, Nashville, Tallahassee, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., and throughout the Carolinas.
