N.C. Bar Honors Mercer with Citizen Lawyer Award

mercerRALEIGH -- The North Carolina Bar Association has honored Charles H. Mercer Jr., a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough's Raleigh office, with its distinguished Citizen Lawyer Award.

The Bar recognized Mr. Mercer for his service as a member of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors since 2001 and as chair of the Budget and Finance, University Governance, and Personnel and Tenure committees. He has also served on the N.C. Banking Commission, the N.C. Local Government Commission, the Commission to Modernize State Finances, and the N.C. Property Tax Commission, which he chaired.

For these and other contributions to the State of North Carolina, Mr. Mercer was honored in 2009 as a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Mr. Mercer has also served on the Duke University Divinity School’s Board of Visitors and the board of directors of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce.

The Citizen Lawyer Award was created in 2007 to recognize and honor North Carolina lawyers who not only provide exemplary service in their capacity as lawyers, but also who give immense time to their communities in a variety of ways. This includes public service  in local or state government in elected or appointed positions, or volunteer positions as varied as coaching youth sports teams or serving as tutors or mentors to young people, or volunteering or serving as board members for non-profit or community organizations.
