EducationCounsel's Rippner named chairperson of Georgia Schools Commission
ATLANTA (March 3, 2011) - EducationCounsel's Jennifer Rippner has been elected as chairperson of the Georgia Charter Schools Commission. The commission is a state-level, independent charter school authorizing entity. The commission has the power to approve or deny petitions for commission charter schools and renew, non-renew, or terminate commission charter school petitions in accordance with Georgia law.

Ms. Rippner is a senior policy and legal advisor with EducationCounsel, LLC, affiliated with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. She formerly served as Governor Sonny Perdue's education advisor and Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Student Achievement and has extensive experience in charter school policy through her work as the Georgia Department of Education's Charter Schools Program Manager, the Director of Florida's Charter School Accountability Center, and the School Director of a Florida charter school. She was a past board member for the National Association of Charter School Authorizers and she is a current member of the Southern Regional Education Board and the Georgia Bar.
