Nelson Mullins Awards Grant to Boston Disability Law Center for Children's Issues

BOSTON (May 23, 2012) – Boston's The Disability Law Center will use a grant awarded by law firm Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough to fund a summer law intern to work with its youth program.

Nelson Mullins has maintained a donor directed foundation fund since 1997 to provide yearly assistance to organizations that serve the legal needs of low-income children. Nelson Mullins has an established relationship with the Disability Law Center and recently helped the organization reach a settlement on a lawsuit to improve conditions for inmates with mental health issues.

"We are grateful for the assistance Nelson Mullins is providing to allow us to increase the numbers of children we can serve," said Rick Glassman, the center's litigation director. "Children are among the most underrepresented in the legal system, and the addition of a summer law clerk can help us reach more of those in need."

The Disability Law Center (DLC) is the Protection and Advocacy agency for Massachusetts. As a Protection and Advocacy agency, DLC is responsible for protecting and advocating for the rights of Massachusetts residents with disabilities.

Established in 1897, Nelson Mullins has more than 430 attorneys and government relations professionals with offices in Atlanta, Boston, Nashville, Tallahassee, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., and throughout the Carolinas.
