Appleseed to Honor Nelson Mullins for Pro Bono Work
ATLANTA (Nov. 4, 2011)--The Georgia Appleseed Center for Law & Justice will honor Nelson Mullins for its pro bono support with the A. Stephens Clay Good Apple Award this spring.
The Firm is being recognized for its work with Effective Student Discipline, the goal of which was to objectively assess Georgia public school discipline and safety policy, enforcement and outcomes, and to effect systemic responses that will ultimately contribute to increased graduation rates and a reduced flow in the school-to-prison pipeline.
"As the lead pro bono firm on this project, Nelson Mullins has helped Georgia Appleseed make major strides toward our goal of increasing justice in Georgia through law and policy reform," said Sharon Hill, Georgia Appleseed executive director.
Atlanta partner Taylor Daly led the Firm's 26-member pro bono team responsible for coordinating, collecting, and collating the interviews. Volunteers met with district superintendents, teachers, counselors, resource officers, and others.
"This award is a huge triumph for Nelson Mullins, and we all owe Taylor a big thank you for putting us in such positive light," said Atlanta Managing Partner Michael Hollingsworth.
Ms. Daly serves on the Board of the Georgia Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. She also has led the Firm's participation in a Georgia Appleseed's JUSTGeorgia project, involving revising the Georgia Juvenile Code.
Established in 1897, Nelson Mullins has more than 420 attorneys and government relations professionals practicing from 12 office locations in the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
