Atlanta Bar Honors Malone

Wade MaloneThe Atlanta Bar Association has honored Atlanta partner Wade Malone with its Leadership Award, which recognizes "Lawyers Who Serve." The award is presented to members who "inspire by their example, challenge by their deeds, and remind us all of our debt to our profession and our community."

In 2003-2004, Mr. Malone served as the 96th president of the Atlanta Bar Association, the largest voluntary bar in the Southeast, with more than 6,300 members. Since its inception in 1993, he has been co-chair of the Atlanta Bar Association's Summer Law Internship Program that provides paid internships for Atlanta area high school students.

Mr. Malone was introduced at the luncheon by Assistant DeKalb District Attorney Darius T. Pattillo, one of the first summer interns. He thanked Mr. Malone for being a mentor, friend, and inspiration.

Mr. Malone has been one of the most dedicated leaders of the Atlanta Bar Association for the past two decades, according to the current president, David N. Schaeffer. In addition to his presidency and membership on the Board and Executive Committee for many years before that, Mr. Malone is currently one of two Atlanta Bar delegates to the American Bar Association and a member of the Board of the charitable arm, the Atlanta Bar Foundation.

"The program that best illustrates Wade's enduring leadership is our Summer Law Internship Program," Mr. Schaeffer said. "Wade was one of the co-founders of this program and has chaired or co-chaired it since its inception. Seventeen years and more than 325 interns later, he and the program are still going strong. Many of its alumni have gone on the college, to law school, and are now practicing attorneys in Atlanta.

"A few weeks ago, I had the honor of welcoming yet another class of 22 interns for this summer's program.... Wade gets to know each of the interns personally, and in some cases, gets to know their whole families as siblings follow their older siblings in the program. It has been Wade's steadfast leadership that has assured this program an everlasting success," he said.
