Christine “Christy” Cox is a senior advisor to Ambassador David Wilkins at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in the Public Policy and International Law practice group, which focuses primarily on representing businesses on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border and offering experience on a wide range of strategic bilateral issues.
Ms. Cox is the former chief of staff to United States Ambassador to Canada David H. Wilkins. She was responsible for the Ambassador’s messaging, including all speeches and oversight of media correspondence and relations, crisis communication, strategic communication placement, media and public outreach and policy, and public relations development.
Ms. Cox was a former chief of staff to the speaker of the House of Representatives and was the first to hold the position of communications director to the speaker of the South Carolina House. She joined the House of Representatives staff in November 1998 after serving as deputy speechwriter and press assistant to South Carolina Governor David Beasley. She began her work in state government with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety in 1993 where she served as spokesperson for the state Highway Patrol for two years.
Ms. Cox formerly worked for a Columbia, S.C., television station, where she was an award-winning journalist, anchor, and talk show host. She was a reporter for the ABC-affiliate in Sioux City, Iowa, where she also worked as a photographer, editor, and substitute anchor. She began her television career at a local cable station on Long Island, New York, where she worked as an associate producer and later as a reporter.
Ms. Cox earned her BA in English/communications from Cabrini College in Radnor, Pennsylvania. She and her husband, Tobe, have been married 19 years and have two children.
