Advocates for ReformNelson Mullins represents clients outside the courtroom by actively working in legislative, judicial, and academic arenas to positively shape statutes, rules, and the common law. Nelson Mullins also provides this representation through its leadership of LCJ, PLAC, DRI, FDCC, and IADC. Several Nelson Mullins lawyers have served as Presidents of LCJ. David Dukes is the former board chairman and former president of the Lawyers for Civil Justice. Our attorneys have worked on various LCJ projects including punitive damages, federal products liability bills and electronic discovery issues. We have six members of PLAC and have served on its Executive Committee. Nelson Mullins has drafted amicus briefs on behalf of PLAC in areas such as expert witness testimony and curtailing the use of junk science in the courtroom. Several Nelson Mullins lawyers have served as Presidents of DRI, and our Managing Partner recently concluded his term as DRI President. In these and other organizations, Nelson Mullins attorneys serve on committees charged with developing strategies for civil justice system reform, and provide expert testimony before rule-making and policy-making groups.
