Nelson Mullins Supports 'Lean In' as a Platform Partner

(Aug. 14, 2013) -- Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has announced its participation with Lean In, a global community committed to offering women the encouragement and support to "lean in" to their ambitions.

Founded this past spring by more than 150 organizations and thought leaders across pop culture, business, politics and education, Lean In principles are based on the book,  "Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead," authored by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, and focus on core professional issues faced by women. Lean In promotes partnerships to bring about organizational change in order to achieve greater diversity in leadership roles, according to the organization.

"Nelson Mullins recognizes that success in supporting a diverse team of professionals who are the best at what they do requires a continuing commitment to the creation and maintenance of a climate of true inclusiveness. The Firm encourages all of its attorneys to lean in, learn, and lead,” said Managing Partner Jim Lehman.

Nelson Mullins maintains an active Diversity Committee and currently supports active participation in women's affinity groups in each of its offices. The affinity groups work to enhance the recruitment and retention of women attorneys, promote leadership both within and outside of the Firm, and work to foster a better understanding among all of the Firm's attorneys of the unique issues facing women professionals.

The groups will participate in and promote the Lean In community, which brings women and men together to share stories and have daily conversations around topics that will help them achieve their goals; offers access to free online lectures, produced in collaboration with the Clayman Institute for Gender Studies at Stanford University, on topics including creating successful teams, combating gender bias, negotiating and advocating ideas; and offers small groups that meet monthly to learn together and share experiences in an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust.
