Greetings from the Gold Dome. The General Assembly is gearing up for its 2002 Session commencing on January 14, 2002. Some annual preliminaries are taking place this week such as the annual Wild Hog Supper scheduled for January 13, 2002 at the Georgia Freight Depot. Additionally, there will be several committees hosting last minute meetings prior to kicking off the Session (some include meetings of the Joint Comprehensive Water Plan Study Committee, Joint Budget Responsibility Oversight Committee, House Insurance Subcommittees on explanation of benefits and reviewing of the methodology of filing of rates, etc.). The biggest news will come from the Budget hearings scheduled to commence on January 8, 2002. Governor Barnes, as well as his economic advisor Hank Thomassen, are scheduled to present information to the Joint House and Senate Appropriations Committee tomorrow. Each of the various departments and agencies will then make their budget presentations to the Joint Committee following these discussions. These hearings will be held beginning at 1:00 p.m. on January 8, 2002 in the Appropriations Room on the third floor of the Capitol.

A more complete report on the budget hearings will be posted after the conclusion of the hearings.
