Nelson Mullins Law Firm Cements Presence in Denver
With Move to Permanent Office Space

DENVER (March 20, 2017)–Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP has moved to new office space in Denver and announces its new team of attorneys who practice complex litigation, including franchise and distribution litigation.

The 11,000-square-foot office space is located at 1400 Wewatta Street, Suite 500, in the Central Platte valley district.  The LEED and Energy Star compliant building offers mountain views, and the space faces a historical railroad bridge, Pepsi Center, and the Cherry Creek trail along the Platte River. Completed in 2009, the building is also near Coors Field and many other downtown attractions, including galleries and art museums.

"The move reflects our desire to grow in Denver and our commitment to the downtown community," said Nelson Mullins Managing Partner James K. Lehman. "We look forward to having our clients visit us in our new work environment."

The Denver move comes as Nelson Mullins also enters the West Coast legal market with the opening of a Los Angeles office. Like the Denver team, the founding team in Los Angeles has a very strong background in the motor vehicle industry, but intends to grow the office strategically to provide full-service legal support to a broad base of clients of all types, both domestic and international.

The Denver team includes:

  • Partner Mark T. Clouatre, who focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, including franchise and distribution litigation. He also handles product liability, toxic tort, employment, malpractice defense, and general tort cases. Mr. Clouatre's clients include nationally recognized motor vehicle manufacturers, airlines, shipping providers, and professional service firms. He has litigated more than 25 complex cases before judges and juries in trial and appellate courts and before administrative agencies in 11 states from Alaska to Florida. He also oversaw and co-managed, with one other firm, more than 400 arbitrations in 48 states during a seven-month span following the bankruptcy of a former automotive group. He personally arbitrated eight of the matters in California and Texas.
  • Associate Jake F. Fischer, who practices in commercial and business litigation, with an emphasis on franchise and distribution litigation. He handles matters before state and federal courts and agencies such as the establishment, termination, and relocation of dealers and franchisees for some of the world’s largest automobile and light, medium, and heavy-duty truck manufacturers and distributors.
  • Associate Adrienne L. Toon, who focuses primarily on complex commercial litigation, including franchise and distribution litigation, representing some of the world’s leading distributors and franchisors in matters relating to such topics as the relocation, establishment, and termination of dealers and franchisees.

Mr. Clouatre opened the Denver office in temporary space in October. Ms. Toon and Mr. Fischer joined the firm in November and December, respectively.

With more than 500 attorneys and other professionals, Nelson Mullins is the nation’s 103rd largest law firm, according to the American Lawyer. The Firm has more than 100 diversified practices in 16 additional offices and, in addition to California and Denver, has expanded into New York in the past two years. Other offices are located in the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

The three new Denver attorneys join more than 25 attorneys in the franchise and distribution law and litigation group who represent regional, national, and international franchisors, distributors, and multi-unit franchisees. The Firm’s franchise and distribution clients range from start-up companies to large, established franchisors and cover a variety of industries including restaurants and food service, hotel and hospitality, vehicle manufacturers and distributors, real estate brokerage, tax preparation services, retail stores, commercial office cleaning, health-related services, amateur and professional sports leagues, and other commercial and consumer-based services.
