William D. "Will" Harter is an associate in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough's Columbia Office, where he practices in the area of litigation.

Mr. Harter served in the United States Marine Corps from 1998-2003. As a Helicopter Crew Chief, Mr. Harter was awarded the Air Medal (First through Third Strike Flight Awards), Combat Aircrew Wings, Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for flying combat missions in support of Special Forces operations in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.  

During his time in service, Mr. Harter received several other awards including the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Sikorsky Life Saving Rescue Award for the medivac rescue extraction of a fellow Marine with potentially life-threatening injuries, and Humanitarian Service Medal for humanitarian operations in Indonesia.

Mr. Harter earned a Juris Doctor in 2009 from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was founder and president of Service Members and Veterans in Law; a member editor for the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal; and worked as a student research assistant. Mr. Harter received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Secured Transactions. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina.
