Steven Buckingham is an associate of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP who practices primarily in the areas of business litigation, class action defense, and product liability.
Mr. Buckingham has served as a law clerk to The Honorable James R. Spencer, Chief United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia, and The Honorable Henry M. Herlong, Jr., United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina.
A member of the South Carolina Bar, Mr. Buckingham is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the Greenville County Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute (DRI). He serves on the South Carolina Bar Committees on Practice & Procedure and Professional Responsibility.
He is the author of the comment, "The Kelo Threshold: Private Property & Public Use Reconsidered," 39 U. Rich. L. Rev. 1279 (2005).
Mr. Buckingham earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, in 2006 from the University of Richmond School of Law, where he served as editor in chief of the University of Richmond Law Review and received the School of Law Faculty Award. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, magna cum laude, in 2003 from Furman University, where he was elected to the membership of Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Buckingham is an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at Furman University. In addition, Mr. Buckingham sits on the board of directors of the Greenville Rape Crisis & Child Abuse Center, and he is a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
