Stephen M. Brooks is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Atlanta where he practices in the areas of product liability (pharmaceuticals and medical devices), employment law, and intellectual property. He has won a number of jury verdicts in the state and federal courts in Georgia. He represents a number of leading pharmaceutical companies in complex product liability and employment matters. Mr. Brooks also assists clients in pre-market product assessments, competition law/Lanham Act matters in federal court and before the NAD/NARB, and internal investigations. Mr. Brooks also regularly counsels clients on electronically stored information (ESI) risks and challenges and electronic discovery issues.
A member of the State Bar of Georgia, Mr. Brooks is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Middle, Northern and Southern Districts of Georgia. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), and sits on its Drug, Device & Biotechnology Committee. He is also a member of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, and is a fellow of the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia. Mr. Brooks has an AV Martindale Hubbell rating.
Mr. Brooks earned a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1993. During law school, he was named a Smith, Gambrell and Russell Scholar for academic excellence, and it was as a law student that Mr. Brooks served as a clerk to Justice Willis B. Hunt of the Supreme Court of Georgia. Mr. Brooks served on the editorial board of the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law. Prior to attending law school, he served as a legislative assistant to U.S. Representative George (Buddy) Darden. Mr. Brooks earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Relations from the University of Virginia in 1989.
