Scott Templeton practices healthcare, corporate, and employment law, representing our clients in contracting, acquisitions, joint ventures, mergers, entity formation, governance, regulatory compliance, policy drafting, employment advising, and related litigation.  Scott works with a broad range of healthcare providers, technology-intensive companies, and other business and professional clients.  Business North Carolina magazine named Scott to North Carolina's “Legal Elite” for 2012 in the field of business law.

Before returning to private practice in 2004, Scott served as North Carolina Deputy Secretary of State for seven years, and for several years was legal counsel to the state Department of Labor. He has practiced with the North Carolina Department of Justice, as well as with other private firms in Raleigh and Winston-Salem.  Following law school, Scott served as a law clerk to Justice Burley B. Mitchell, Jr., on the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Scott is a council member for the Health Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, and has previously served as a councilor for the Bar Association’s Business Law and Government & Public Sector Sections. He is also a member of the North Carolina Society of Healthcare Attorneys, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association. Active in the community, Scott is an elder and former deacon in the Presbyterian Church.

Scott holds a Juris Doctor from the Wake Forest University School of Law (1989), where he served on the editorial staff of the Wake Forest Law Review. He received the school’s Robert F. Goldberg Award in Trial Advocacy, was named to the Order of Barristers, and was a member of the Wake Forest National Trial Team for two years, winning the National Trial Competition’s 1989 regional championship. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1983), and a Certificate in Strategic Leadership for State Executives from the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke University.
