Thomas F. Moran serves as managing partner in the Myrtle Beach office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. His practice focuses on transactions regarding corporate law, partnership law, healthcare law, and tax law. Mr. Moran's tax law practice includes work for tax-exempt hospitals, corporate tax, partnership tax and taxation of real estate transactions, controversy work and state tax issues. Mr. Moran has extensive experience in counseling clients in the acquisition and financing of properties in various business industries, including healthcare, hospitality, and real estate development, developing and protecting technology, trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property, and negotiating and drafting employment agreements, management agreements, partnership agreements, and other relationships.
In addition to his primary office, Mr. Moran maintains an office in Charleston, and he serves as a member of the Firm's Executive Committee, a governing body of seven partners who oversee Firm standing committees, strategic initiatives and Firm operations.
Certified as a Specialist in Tax Law by the Supreme Court of South Carolina, Mr. Moran is primarily a transactional lawyer and his practice includes an emphasis on federal and state taxation issues and healthcare issues. Mr. Moran is a member of the South Carolina Bar and is past president of its Tax Section. He is admitted to practice before the 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.
Mr. Moran is listed in the 2011 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for his tax law practice. He was named to the 2011 list of South Carolina “Super Lawyers” for his business and corporate law practice.
Mr. Moran earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1988, and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987. During law school, he was a member of Delta Theta Phi, the Order of Wig and Robe, and the Moot Court Bar International Team. He was the recipient of American Jurisprudence Awards in Criminal Process and in Trusts and Estates. Additionally, he served as a legal writing instructor and was inducted into The Order of the Coif. Mr. Moran earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude, from Clemson University in 1983.
