John M. Campbell, Jr.

John M. Campbell, Jr. has been a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP since 1988 when he came to the firm as one of the original partners in the Greenville Office.  He served as managing partner of that office for over ten (10) years.  He has worked extensively in the areas of estate and succession planning and probate, executive deferred compensation with for-profit corporations and tax-exempt organizations, mergers and acquisitions and ERISA.  He has substantial experience in working as legal counsel to corporate and not-for-profit Boards of Directors on governance, fiduciary, regulatory and executive compensation matters.

A member of the South Carolina Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and the State Bar of Georgia, Mr. Campbell is admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court.  Mr. Campbell is a Certified Specialist in Taxation Law, a distinction awarded by the Supreme Court of South Carolina.  He is a member of the Southern Pension Conference and is the author of How the Professional Athlete Can Score Tax Savings, Prentice-Hall Inc. 1979.  He was a certified contract advisor for the National Football League Players' Association for over ten (10) years.

 

Mr. Campbell earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University in 1978, a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1975.  He attended the University of Bristol, in Bristol, England on a Rotary International postgraduate scholarship in 1972-73, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, summa cum laude, from Furman University in 1971. He served as the law clerk to Judge Randolph F. Caldwell, Jr., Chief Special Trial Judge of the U.S. Tax Court and to Judge C. Moxley Featherston, Chief Judge of the U.S. Tax Court, from 1975 to 1978.
