James J. McGovern is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP who practices in Columbia in the areas of corporate litigation, outsourcing, and technology litigation.
A member of the South Carolina Bar and the Indiana State Bar, Mr. McGovern is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the District of South Carolina and the Districts of Northern and Southern Indiana. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. McGovern was Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary of Mynd Corporation where he provided legal advice to the corporation, managed acquisitions and divestitures, and managed Securities and Exchange Act compliance. Prior to his affiliation with Mynd, Mr. McGovern was Associate Clinical Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law where he supervised students in their representation of indigent clients and taught Trial Practice and Advocacy Skills, Lawyers Skills, and Professional Ethics.
Mr. McGovern earned a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law in 1976. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, with distinction, from Indiana University in 1973.
