David A. Harlow concentrates his practice in the areas of intellectual property and technology matters, including litigation and transactions.  His intellectual property litigation practice includes matters involving patent, trademark and copyright infringement, technical (primarily chemical and computer) trade secrets, and comparative advertising and advertising injury claims.  Mr. Harlow represents both corporations, and insurance companies which insure intellectual property and advertising injury claims.

Early in his career, Mr. Harlow practiced as a litigator of a broad variety of technology and engineering matters.  He served five years as a civilian District Trial Counsel with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he tried a number of environmental, construction, engineering and government contract matters.  Later, in private practice, while continuing to litigate cases across these subject matter areas, Mr. Harlow’s practice evolved more to intellectual property and related computer and pharmaceutical matters, eventually focusing on all aspects of intellectual property and the representation of technology based businesses.

Mr. Harlow has served as Vice Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association ("ABA").  He has also been an active member of the International Trademark Association, the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group, and the Defense Research Institute.

Mr. Harlow is a former Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, a former committee chair of the ABA Section of Science and Technology, and has been named as a member of North Carolina’s Legal Elite for many years by Business North Carolina magazine.

Mr. Harlow completed the National Program of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy at Boulder in 1978. He earned his Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law in 1968. In 1965, he earned his Bachelor of Arts with honors, from Lehigh University.
