Leslie Lane Mize is a partner in the Raleigh office of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough. She practices in a variety of areas including business and commercial litigation, products liability, insurance, and construction law, and she represents an array of clients including insurance carriers, manufacturers, lending institutions, a municipality, and contractors. She has appeared on behalf of such clients in state and federal courts across North Carolina, in private arbitrations, and before agencies and the Office of Administrative Hearings.
In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Mize has prosecuted trademarks before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has represented university students seeking classification as residents for tuition purposes.
A member of the North Carolina State Bar, Ms. Mize is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Ms. Mize is a member of the American Bar Association, the Wake County Bar Association, and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys.
In 2007, Ms. Mize was awarded the Claude M. Scarborough, Jr., Pro Bono Award for outstanding legal assistance to the poor for her work representing a father in an international kidnapping case.
In 2004, Ms. Mize earned a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law. She was named to The Order of the Coif, was a member of the editorial board of the Georgia Law Review, and received the Verner F. Chaffin Award for Excellence in Fiduciary Law. In 2000, Ms. Mize earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was named to Phi Beta Kappa.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Mize worked as a legislative correspondent for U.S. Senator Max Cleland and served as a press advance office intern in The White House.
Ms. Mize is a member of the Junior League of Raleigh and has served as a facilitator for the Wake County League of Women Voters’ Running and Winning program for high school students.
