A partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, John’s practice focuses on product liability and business litigation, electronic discovery, and information management.
As a leader of the Nelson Mullins Electronic Discovery and Information Management practice group and Nelson Mullins Encompass E-Discovery and Document Review Solutions, John advises clients on privacy and information security issues and implements defensible approaches to the preservation, collection, and production of electronically stored information for litigation, government requests, and internal investigations. Clients often call on John to develop both offensive and defensive electronic discovery strategies and to prepare company witnesses to address challenging data related issues. John helps clients with the selection and management of electronic discovery vendors as well as the development of cost-effective, large-scale document review strategies. John currently serves as the editor-in-chief of the Defense Research Institute’s publication E-Discovery Connection and is a member of the Sedona Conference’s Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production.
John regularly represents drug and medical device companies, manufacturers, and other industries in product liability and business litigation. John has served as both national coordinating counsel and local counsel in pharmaceutical mass tort litigation. A member of the South Carolina Bar, John is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. John has been admitted to practice pro hac vice in courts across the United States.
John is a member of the Defense Research Institute and its Electronic Discovery and Drug & Medical Device committees. A member of the American Bar Association and its Business Litigation and Products Liability sections, John is also a member of the Richland County Bar Association and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association. John has served on the South Carolina Bar’s Ethics Advisory Committee, Professional Responsibility Committee, Practice & Procedure Committee and its Resolution of Fee Disputes Board. From 2000-2004, John served on the South Carolina State Elections Commission.
John earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2000 and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina in 1996.
