Jack Slosson is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough in Charlotte who is licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina. Mr. Slosson practices in the area of litigation with a focus on complex litigation, including toxic torts, product liability, commercial litigation, class actions, insurance extra contractual issues, and negligence cases.
Mr. Slosson works with a team serving as national coordinating counsel for a major chemical, oil, and gas company in its asbestos litigation. Mr. Slosson handles expert and plaintiff depositions throughout the country for this client. Other responsibilities include developing overall litigation and settlement strategy, training and coordinating the activities of various local counsel who represent the client throughout the United States, and coordination of all discovery nationwide. Mr. Slosson also serves as local counsel for asbestos clients in North Carolina and South Carolina.
Mr. Slosson has represented major insurers in extra contractual litigation in the Carolinas, including cases reaching the South Carolina Supreme Court on insurance issues of first impression in the State. He also has defended insurance agents/brokers in claims of fraud and misrepresentation.
Mr. Slosson has experience in class action litigation, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, and general tort and commercial litigation. His trial experience includes the trial of a major chemical exposure case, as well as serving as lead trial counsel for the plaintiff in a civil rights trial that received international media coverage.
Mr. Slosson has represented an NBA All-Star in contractual litigation, and is the author of "Restoring Joy to Bracketville: Problems Facing College Basketball Stimulate Responses from the NCAA and the Newly Formed Student Basketball Council," 8 Sports Law. J. 125 (2001). Mr. Slosson is also the co-author of the South Carolina chapter of The Product Liability Desk Reference, Morton F. Daller, ed., Aspen Law & Business, 2002 edition. Mr. Slosson received the 2007 Claude M. Scarborough Pro Bono Award for commitment to the community through pro bono legal services.
In 2001, Mr. Slosson earned a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Davidson College in 1996.
