Hemant Dutta is an associate of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP who practices in the areas of corporate governance, general corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, computer law, and technology licensing.
 
Specifically, Mr. Dutta’s practice focused on mergers, business combinations, public and private offerings of securities, and venture capital transactions.
 
Prior to joining Nelson Mullins, Mr. Dutta worked for the Microsoft Corporation as a lead product manager in Worldwide Licensing and Pricing and a senior product manager in the Unified Communications Group. He has extensive experience developing business and licensing models to monetize software and IT technology. While at Microsoft, he led cross-company teams to develop licensing and pricing models, program structure, and channel strategy to support the sale of the company’s software and hosted services, and evangelized the company’s licensing policies at industry trade shows, conferences, and press events. He also co-authored a Microsoft Thinkweek paper for Bill Gates on licensing software in dynamic computing environments. Before Microsoft, Mr. Dutta worked at Deloitte Consulting as a business analyst, helping companies analyze their businesses and develop strategies to keep them competitive.
 
In 2003, Mr. Dutta earned a Juris Doctor from the Columbia University School of Law and an MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. While earning his two degrees at Columbia University, Mr. Dutta was a Stone Scholar, a contributor to the Science and Technology Law Review, and an InSite Fellow. In 1997, as a member of the Management and Technology Program at the University of Pennsylvania, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science, cum laude.

Mr. Dutta is fluent in Hindi and proficient in Spanish.
