Daniel R. D'Alberto is an associate of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP with a wide variety of experience advising businesses in the areas of complex business litigation, patent litigation, pharmaceutical litigation, and securities litigation. Mr. D’Alberto also has significant experience advising businesses regarding governmental investigations, director and officer indemnification claims, and employee noncompete provisions.
Because he understands that companies are not in the litigation business, Mr. D’Alberto’s practice includes a variety of negotiation and counseling services. Mr. D’Alberto has assisted in advising public and private companies and their officers and directors on a broad range of issues regarding litigation risk management strategies, commercial and insurance contracts, and corporate compliance matters.
Mr. D'Alberto also has considerable experience in electronic discovery and data privacy issues. In addition to co-authoring several articles (available by clicking on the "Related Articles" link to the left) and speaking at numerous seminars regarding electronic discovery and data privacy, Mr. D'Alberto has assisted Fortune 500 companies in developing comprehensive e-discovery platforms, as well as small businesses regarding cost-effective e-discovery risk reduction strategies.
In 2008, Mr. D'Alberto received the Nelson Mullins Renaissance Associate Award, an award given to one associate Firmwide who best demonstrates achievement in client service, training, pro bono, marketing, recruiting, and productivity. As a result, he attended Renaissance Weekend, a retreat for innovative leaders from all sectors of business, government, and the arts.
In addition to his practice, Mr. D'Alberto also provides a variety of services to bar-related organizations. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar's Practice and Procedure Committee and the Defense Research Institute's Electronic Discovery Committee, and is an instructor in the University of South Carolina's Paralegal Certificate Program. Mr. D'Alberto is also a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Defense Research Institute, the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys' Association, and the American Bar Association.
Mr. D'Alberto serves on the Board of Directors of the SC Economics, formerly known as the South Carolina Council on Economic Education, and is a member of the Leadership Council of the American Cancer Society of the Midlands. He is also a member of the Young Leaders Society of the United Way of the Midlands and is a graduate of the United Way’s Blueprint for Leadership program, a training program designed to develop and enhance leadership skills for service on nonprofit boards. He is also a member of the Alumni Council of the University of South Carolina's College of Arts & Sciences.
In 2005, Mr. D'Alberto earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While in law school, he was named to the Order of the Wig and Robe. He also received CALI Awards in American Legal History and Criminal Law and served as an articles editor for the ABA Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal.
In 2000, Mr. D'Alberto earned a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University. In 1997, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina Honors College. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. D'Alberto served as a development officer for the University of South Carolina and Johns Hopkins University.
