Hamilton E. “Bo” Russell, III, is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP and practices in the Greenville office. Mr. Russell advises corporate clients, venture and growth stage companies, private equity funds, financial institutions, and real estate development companies with respect to a variety of corporate matters.
Mr. Russell has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Mergers & Acquisitions and Venture Capital Law.
Mr. Russell works with companies at various stages of development and has represented clients in M&A transactions and other significant corporate transactions, private placements, and various forms of debt financing. Mr. Russell advises clients on various legal and business matters including entity formation, capitalization issues, equity compensation alternatives, customer and vendor contracts, and capital-raising considerations. Mr. Russell has also represented parties involved in ownership, operation, and development of equity and non-equity resort projects, and residential/golf course development and financing transactions.
Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Russell worked with NuVox Communications, Inc., as the Vice President of Legal Affairs. During his seven-and-one-half years with NuVox, Mr. Russell assisted the company in growing from an operation with 11 employees in Greenville, S.C., to approximately 1,100 employees operating in 31 markets across 15 states. While Mr. Russell was with NuVox, the company increased revenues from $0 in 1998 to approximately $314 million in 2004. Mr. Russell also assisted with the merger and integration of NuVox and NewSouth Communications, Inc., prior to joining Nelson Mullins in the third quarter of 2005.
Previously, Mr. Russell served on the Board of Directors of United Ministries and the Board of Trustees of the Historic Greenville Foundation. Mr. Russell serves as Chairman of the Washington and Lee University Alumni Admissions Program. Mr. Russell completed Leadership South Carolina in 2009.
Mr. Russell earned a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1995, where he served as associate editor of the South Carolina Law Review. Mr. Russell was named to the Order of Wig and Robe Academic Honor Society as well as an inductee of the John Belton O’Neall Inn of Court. He earned a bachelor’s degree in European History, with honors, from Washington and Lee University in 1992.
